Performance review phrases – Assertiveness

Assertiveness is a quality required to communicate one’s points and goals. Assertive employees are not afraid to speak up and share what they believe in. Such people responsible for most innovations in the workplace.

Exceptional/Superior:

  1. Edward creates wonderful presentations to pitch and sell 0his ideas.
  2. Albert advocates for himself and his interests while being a highly productive employee.
  3. Olivia speaks up whenever she wants without being disrespectful or aggressive.
  4. Jennifer is a useful contributor who provides her team members with constructive feedback.
  5. Arthur resolves even the hardest workplace issues without a fuss due to self-confidence.
  6. John never blindly believes that others say and prefers to form his own opinions and views.
  7. Portia is an assertive employee who is willing to communicate honestly and openly.
  8. Robert managed to assert his dominance while being an honest and beloved leader.
  9. Samantha is not afraid to have a point of view even when others disagree with her.
  10. Even though Rachel is a very confident and experienced employee, she accepts her mistakes.

Exceeds Requirements/More than Satisfactory:

  1. When conveying his views and ideas, Trevor stays calm and confident no matter what.
  2. Susan actively listens to others ideas without interrupting before sharing her thoughts.
  3. Harry is willing to share his prominent thought and ideas with supervisors.
  4. James directly expresses his opinions without being overly pushy and emotional.
  5. Jane knows how to turn aggression into assertiveness and avoid conflicts in the workplace.
  6. Valerie have always been confident speaking her mind in the workplace.
  7. Olivia respects her supervisor but makes sure her thoughts and ideas are heard.
  8. David gives clear and well-organized speeches when presenting his projects.
  9. Rebecca always justifies her requests when asking for extra resources.
  10. Gwen makes others listen to her thoughts and opinions by being convincing and reasonable.

Meets Expectations/Satisfactory:

  1. Arthur can convince most clients to change their opinion without aggressive language.
  2. Sandra freely defends her rights and expresses her opinions.
  3. George knows his boundaries and does not take on more projects than he can handle.
  4. Aaron does not allow others to take advantage of him.
  5. Valerie stays calm and confident whenever conflict situations arise in the workplace.
  6. Donald always prepares a speech in advance when defending his solutions.
  7. Robert has an assertive and confident stance, which makes customers trust him.
  8. Linda seems to sincerely believe in the ideas and solutions he want to implement.
  9. Michelle respectfully and clearly asks her supervisors for what she wants.
  10. Paul perfectly understands the difference between being aggressive and being assertive.

Provisional/Needs Improvement:

  1. Frank has too much self-confidence. He refuses to consider other people’s points of views.
  2. Harry is an overly compliant person who prefers to agree with others instead of proving his points.
  3. Cindy openly disregards opinions and knowledge of the company’s clients.
  4. Oliver aggressively dominates other employees thus violating the company’s policies.
  5. Joel demonstrates superiority in the workplace through expressiveness and aggressive attitude.
  6. Abby does not pay attention to her body language and language, which makes her sound timid.
  7. Ellie is trying too hard to meet the demands of other people instead of doing what she wants.
  8. When answering customer service calls, Michael speaks without concretion when trying to prove his points.
  9. Thomas thinks that aggressive behavior is the only way to demonstrate assertiveness.
  10. Sandra fails to prove other employees that her standpoint is accurate.

Unsatisfactory:

  1. Yvonne utilizes aggressive language and intimidates subordinates to assert her dominance.
  2. Harold does not have enough courage to actively defend his points of view.
  3. Monica cannot express her ideas properly. She severely lacks oral communication skills.
  4. Nigel ignores constructive criticism and does all the things his own way.
  5. Bruce does not value ideas proposed subordinates. His self-esteem seems to be too high.
  6. Janet cannot accept her mistakes. She believes that all of her ideas are 100% accurate.
  7. Olivia never takes a problem-solving approach to workplace conflicts.
  8. David does not let others respond when trying to defend his approaches and solutions.
  9. Jennifer lacks patience. She does not listen to others and quickly becomes emotional.
  10. Peter cannot agree to disagree. He is too obsessed with his beliefs and ideas.

Self Evaluation Questions:

  1. What do you do to convince other employees into choosing your approach instead of another one?
  2. Have you ever managed to change your supervisor’s points of view?
  3. Is it hard for you to persuade someone that his or her standpoint is wrong?
  4. When was the last time you changed your colleague’s opinion?
  5. Do you use any techniques that help you defend your ideas?
  6. What do you do to convince the client that your point of view is accurate?
  7. How often do you feel that your boss does not value you high enough?
  8. Do you consider yourself an egocentric person?
  9. What are the main advantages of assertive behavior in your opinion?
  10. If others act aggressive towards you, how do you answer them back?
