I. Contents of excellent performance review
Employee performance appraisals with overall ratings of “excellent” can result in rewards, such as higher pay, promotions or other forms of recognition. Receiving the highest score from your supervisor can challenging, especially if other dedicated employees work at your company. If you consistently exhibit performance that exceeds the standard expectations of your job duties, you may be noticed by your manager and receive the excellent rating you deserve.
Report to work early and stay late. If you have work assignments that need to be completed, arrive before your start time and leave after many of your co-workers to get the job done. If your personal life won’t accommodate so much of your time spent at work, then show up a few minutes before it’s required and never be late.
Exceed at all job standards. Your performance plan may reflect the minimum you must accomplish to achieve a “satisfactory” rating. If your duties are quantifiable, such as sales quotas or regular deadlines, your goals should be higher than your company requires. Sell more or submit reports early, for example, to prove excellent performance.
Learn the tasks of positions in your department and other areas. Use your own time or finish your assignments early and ask your supervisor if you can talk to or shadow another employee to know the requirements of that position. If your company needs someone to help that section in a pinch, you’ll be ready to jump in and provide assistance.
Motivate your co-workers. Whether or not you are the lead on a project, your attitude can affect the morale of the entire section. Stay positive and avoid perpetuating office rumors. Show your diligence in completing your duties and encourage others to meet the standards of their jobs. Offer advice and guidance in professional and personal matters during your lunch hour, break time or after work. If your manager can rely on you as a liaison with other employees when your job doesn’t require it, you’ll exceed the standards for your position.
Show loyalty to your employer. Your work should reflect the objectives of your department and the company, in general. For example, if you recognize an opportunity to reduce spending, perform an analysis and write a report explaining your money-saving idea. Alternatively, ask your supervisor if you can be in charge of implementing a new system to reduce errors and improve productivity.
Ask for additional work. If you complete your job duties before a deadline or you have lag time at your desk, request more assignments from your manager. For example, if you are a receptionist and you don’t have tasks to occupy your time when the phone isn’t ringing, perform data entry or proofread reports for others in between answering calls and greeting customers.
